Integrating specialized texts into ESP courses requires developing a whole range of activities helping students successfully acquire legal vocabulary. At the same time course development should properly accommodate students’ knowledge about law and maintain a good balance between ‘carrier-content’ and ‘real-content’ giving sufficient room for critical analysis and discussion. In this regard, the article suggests that commenting and meaning-negotiation will be the main strategies of teaching legal English. The author analyzes the application of this strategy outlining its main types and aspects. The discussion focuses on the work with students of master’s programmes.
