Various embodiments of optical schemes permit page-by-page data retrieval from fluorescent multilayer optical cards. The integral optical unit for generation of reading radiation includes, depending on specific design, for instance a micro-miniaturized linear filament light bulb, one or a matrix of light-emitting or laser diodes, a wide optical waveguide or an optical strip waveguide array with a matrix of surface-embossed holograms on the bottom side and a matrix of collimating microoptics on the other side of said waveguides, as well as a matrix of electrooptical shutters based on liquid crystals and a second matrix of collimating optics generating one light beam in the location of the information page to be read.
