Аннотация:Тhis article looks into the functions of using Latin alphabet in modern mass media discourse. Among
these functions are: precise transfer of proper names, economical use of linguistic and graphic means, transfer of notions non-existent in the Russian language, discourse decoration and intellectualization by the authors, with the principal function being presuppositional argumentation of the author’s intentions. Such argumentation stems from “language play” of Latin and Cyrillic alphabets. The
article views this combination of the two alphabets as a considerable resource for further development of Russian language.
