1. (1) In the present work using the polarimeter method we have studied the configurational transformations of chains of p.g.a. in aqueous solutions in relation to the pH of the medium and the temperature of the solution for initial sodium and lithium salts of p.g.a. 2. (2) From the results of study of the dependence of the specific rotation of solutions of p.g.a. on the pH of the medium it is assumed that in acid solutions of p.g.a. (pH < 5) processes of aggregation of macromolecules occur (in the limiting case this leads to breakdown of the system) which in turn influence the optical properties of these solutions. 3. (3) The results of polarimeter investigations of the thermal stability of the α-helix of p.g.a. in the region of acid pH values (from 4·5 to 3·5) may serve as an argument in support of aggregation of molecules of p.g.a. in acid solutions. © 1966.
